Farewell ...

My dear friends ...
It is with a mixture of melancholia and unexpected relief that I announce my extended sabbatical from my beloved blog and decorating business, White & Wander...

The blog has been with me as I've wandered the globe for these past 5 years, but the online world has changed so dramatically and I feel it is the right time to leave it behind and continue my adventures in the real world.

Never in the fashion of doing things by halves, it's not only the blog that is going into storage: I've packed up my beautiful loft and stowed my treasures in a little storage unit, packed up our shop collections into the neighbouring unit (it looks so lovely all together!), and am busily squirrelling away my pennies for a one way ticket overseas to wander until my heart is hopefully content.

And, as a conversation with a fellow wanderer recently enlightened me, I'm not a nomad as I've so often called myself, for nomads will wander forever; rather I'm a tumbleweed, for I hold great hope that one day I will come to a standstill when find my home..

And when I find my home, I may very well resurrect White & Wander, but for now I bid you all a very fond farewell.

Much love, Emma x

Little One ...

Hello ...
Here is a baby pug darling to look at while I sort a few things out!

Transfixed ...

My lack of regular posting has been entirely attributable to the Olympics... I've been completely transfixed, in tears most of the time at these amazing feats, and am a bit sad that it is now all over ...

But I shall cope!
Lovely holiday coming up this weekend and some more winds of change blowing through the W&W camp... just how I like it xx

27.7.12

Balloon Pug ...

I might just need to order one of these ...

Happy weekend, dear friends xx

26.7.12

Farm ...

I've seen it written that the Olympic opening ceremony is going to begin with an English farmyard full of real live farm animals!
So cute... I can't wait to see how it all comes together...

And these are the people behind it; not that you would guess it from this awfully dismal photo, poor lot. Get these people some Photo Shop! They've earned it!

Bring on the festivities!

25.7.12

Combo ...

Fabulous colour combo - white, navy and leopard.
Clearly, I define leopard as a colour!
Why not, hey?

23.7.12

GC ...

4 things I learned on my recent jaunt on the Gold Coast ...

That lunch (and very likely dinner) tastes infinitely better when you've travelled to it on a lovely big boat on a beautiful sunny day...
(Photo above of Abbey, Sally and I)

That even slightly uninspiring architecture can be appealing with a sail boat parked out the front ...

That I've never met a fishing vessel I didn't greatly desire as my primary place of residence...
This one was in harbour at Sanctuary cove, having a little rest ...

And lastly, that I am an atrocious under-packer ...

I usually feel so proud of myself for conjuring up such versatile mix-and-match outfits but ultimately kick myself on arrival when this capsule wardrobe proves a little too capsule!

Obviously I had no choice but to therefore buy the above skirt..
It was a necessity.

A big thankyou to Sal (and Tim and Wally!) for having us, it was such fun!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend as well, dear friends xx

17.7.12

Hat ...

I'm on the lookout for a Panama hat for the upcoming tropical holiday ... my stupidly large head is proving to be a bit problematic! Any suggestions?
Also, would anyone know if these hats do in fact successfully roll up or do they end up looking like something Henry had a little chew on....?

Muchas gracias in advance for your answers  xx

16.7.12

Cinema ...

I'm super excited that Wes Anderson's latest adventure, Moonrise Kingdom, is soon to be released...
Even the poster tickles my fancy!

As someone who often gets caught up watching the set and production design more than the actual story line, I was fascinated to read about the font design for the films titles ... what a cool job!

12.7.12

Things ...

I'm looking forward to this weekend ...
Catching up with my main man, Monsieur Henri ...
Dreaming up outfits for an upcoming holiday with the girls ...
Mega-watt inspiration here ... (one can dream)
And having a little sleep in ...

Happy weekend, dear friends xx

What a super beautiful accessory to liven up a weary traveller ...

Distracted ...

Bad blogger.
Forgive me.

While I wish it was a whirl wind love affair, it was in fact the evil temptresses Pinterest and Instagram that had lured me away....
As had this page turner, and countless thoughts of decorating schemes and travel to distant lands ...

Photo from a very favourite tumblr, remain simple.

Birthday ...

Whoa... what a whirlwind few weeks it has been!

Also, the little old blog has just had it's 5th birthday (hence the puppy with balloons)... quite a milestone for me and I've loved every minute of it!

While the world of blogging has changed immensely in this time, my original focus is still what brings me back to post - a love of beautiful interiors (and dogs) ...

Happy birthday to us!

PS... I've entered this competition so pop over and have a look at my pins it you like! Pinterest is the bomb.
Thanks Jen for the heads up!

Moondog ...

I spotted this in the latest gorgeous edition of VogueLiving and think it is one of the most original and lovely fabrics I've seen in a very, very long time... and yes, of course I love it because it stars a dog!
 'Moondog' by Kit Kemp....

Available through Chelsea Textiles.

Jubilee ...

What a fun week it has been watching the Jubilee celebrations in London from afar.
I'm a big fan of a bit of pomp and circumstance and no one does it better than the Brits!

The celebrations continue this weekend as Lucy and Ellis have just landed for their belated wedding party at home. Keep your eyes on Instagram (whiteandwander) for photos of our red, white and blue decorations ...!

Happy weekend, dear Friends xx

Saucy ...

Hot sauce never looked so good ...
Hello Wednesday!

Chilly

It's just a bit chilly today so I'm sending my fellow Southerners a little bit of warmth by way of this roaring fire...

Tumbling ...

Hello hello!
Back from my little break, rejuvenated and bursting at the seams to post this shot of the Jo Malone store on Sloane Street, London.
Window dressing at its very best.
Flowers tumbling from a window? I wish I'd thought of it myself!

Happy weekend, dear friends x

Pause ...

You might have noticed, I'm having a little blog holiday...

As I get excited about turning both 5 (blog) and 1 (business), I thought it was a good time to step back and take stock of what has been some seriously busy years here at W&W.

Mum and I are planning some super exciting pop-ups in the next few months and remain enthusiastic about gently adding to our collection of treasures for the shop, we just can't help ourselves!
Interior decorating and styling services are still all systems go, so drop me a line if you'd like to chat about your decorating projects.

I'll be back before you know it x

This image has nothing to do with time off but I just loved it... The Steward, of course.

2.5.12

Crumpled ...

This is a great crumpled, jumbly mess of a bed ...

While the nurse in me desperately wants to neaten it up just a touch, I can still appreciate the beautiful styling.
I simply adore mixed up linens, some vintage mixed with some brand new ... and I dream of stumbling across a delicately faded quilt such as this one day, the more ragged the better.

30.4.12

Ile de Re ...

Isn't this just one of the most idyllic images you've ever clapped your eyes on?
You all know I love a tug boat...

I've dreamed of visiting Ile de Re (an island off the west coast of France) since seeing the interior of La Maison Douce featured in a magazine many, many years ago. I've made up my mind that the rest of the island must be just as enchanting and well worth an expedition when next in the region ...
 I'll get there soon enough...

Anyone else spend unnecessary amounts of time planning dream itineraries like me??
(Please don't let me be alone in this!)

27.4.12

Pup ...

Making up for a lack of Friday pup photos by posting two... I couldn't choose so up they both go even though I'm sure the Father and Son pugs have been here before ...

Happy weekend, dear friends xx

Suited ...

A little bit of a departure from interiors today as we examine the all too rare sighting of a man in a beautifully tailored suit.
Especially good on a man as dapper as Roger Stirling.
Silver fox.
Loving season 5 Mad Men - you?

23.4.12

Explorers ...

I took this photo yesterday while on an inpromptu day trip to Port Adelaide with the gorgeous Kate - it was such fun, we felt like explorers!

One day I'll have a tug boat of my own... I just know it!

20.4.12

Hello ...

Oops, I disappeared!
And to add insult to serious injury, I was unable to find a gorgeous enough puppy to express my infinite happiness that today is Friday...
I'll leave you with this beautifully balanced composition from Living Etc instead.

Happy weekend, dear friends xx

10.4.12

Adventure ...

Today I'm straight back to work on a few fun decorating jobs but in the back of my mind I'm dreaming of a bit of adventuring ...
Telling myself to be patient is always a complex task!

4.4.12

Bunny ...

Having a little break in Sydney over Easter so posting will start again next week.
I promise to Instagram my little heart out as I trawl for treasures ...

Wishing you a safe and happy Easter break, dear friends xx

2.4.12

Lunch ...

Just in case you missed the photos of Kim's Birthday Lunch on Instagram, (my new obsession and reason why I appear to neglect W&W 'headquarters') here they are again...
How divine is her Caviar wallpaper!
Of course I took any excuse to debut the giant clam shell, and generally theme nautically - my favourite way to decorate!

Also joining us were fellow blogging beauties Kate, Sally, Pip and Alex
Quite the bloggers lunch!

For future reference, fellow lovers of the exoskeleton, giant clam shells are in no way water-tight! We learned this the hard way but thankfully took photos pre flooding of the table...

Off to find some sealant!

30.3.12

Trucker ...

Bit of a whacko shot to finish the week.
I'd love to have a dog that could come with me to see clients and on deliveries... not that I deliver bottled water but you get my drift!

Happy weekend, dear friends x

PS - Kimbo's birthday was yesterday... hurrah!
Celebrating with lunch at the SFC on Sunday so the new giant clam shells will be making an appearance...keep your eyes on Instagram (whiteandwander) for photos xx

28.3.12

Blackboard ...

Here is shot from a wedding I did for a gorgeous couple a few weeks ago.
I have a new love... signwriting.
All that rubbing out and perfecting the lettering is so therapeutic!

Roy V Photography - the man is a genious!

27.3.12

Tea ...

This picture from the latest Martha Stewart Living has my heart beating rather quickly...
Adoring the twiggy, mossy props but most of all desperately want to get my mits on that giant yellow tub of tea!
Friends will be laughing as they all know I don't really drink tea but I can't resist that stunning yellow and silver loveliness - would be a beautiful addition to my collection of props that are gorgeous but completely useless...

I tracked it down(i.e. read the article) - Bellocq Tea Atelier

23.3.12

Wet Puppy ...

This looks like a great day to me ... Sun, water and a big wet puppy.

Happy weekend, dear friends xx

22.3.12

Cheetah ...

221B Baker St, London - Holmes & Watson's quarters ...
Of course I love it - there's a cheetah skin casually strewn across the ottoman!

Yacht #2

Of course, if yacht #1 gets sold then I could probably settle for this.
It's a touch more expensive at 38,000,000 but she sure is pretty...

Still dreaming... clearly!

20.3.12

Yacht #1 ...

Oh, woe is me, I've stumbled upon a site that I wish I hadn't ...
Please be warned, if you're a daydreaming wanderlusty sailor like me I strongly advise you NOT to look at it... you too will be tortured for many long hours

I've been obsessing over renovating a boat interior for some months now after spying a derelict tug that had my name written all over it. Since the owners have decided not to part with it, this will have to do as a substitute...

Built in 1939, this darling old girl served during WWII as an espionage boat for the English Navy in the Mediterranean and is currently berthed in France - With an interior in need of the W&W touch, the necessity to sail her home from France and a scandalous history like that I think we are going to get along just famously!

A girl can dream ...sigh

19.3.12

Elope ...

Our family was thrilled, surprised and of course a bit flabbergasted last week with the happy news that my twin sister Luce and her lovely fiance Ellis were eloping to New York City after becoming engaged just a few weeks earlier ...
This is just a teensy selection of the photos taken by Katie Jane who not only captured the happy day but also acted as their witness - how funny is that? Luce said she was amazing so if you're ever eloping in NY, she's your gal...

We knew Luce may not have thought of a bouquet after organising all the other logistics so we tracked down a florist via their concierge and asked them to put together this gorgeous bouquet and send it over the morning of the ceremony - I wanted it to look like Georgie's wedding flowers and happily it seems that it did!

What wonderful news ... we are so happy for them and I can't wait to see them next time they are home (or I'm there!)

PS ... Luce is a brilliant dressmaker and whipped this skirt up herself just a few days before they left for NY,  and topped it off with this Kate Spade number. How clever she is!

16.3.12

Weekend

Funny swimming pups - just like Mr H. He is a serious water dog...

Happy weekend, dear friends xx

7.3.12

Classic and Zany ...

Getting back into the swing of decorating interiors again...
I've been thinking about mixing old school classics like silver framed ships and butler's pantry's with zany touches like this trumpet sconce... I think it works. Gotta have a touch of whacky in every interior.

Gorgeous x

Wed ...

Thoroughly successful wedding on the weekend, friends ... the design went beautifully to plan.
The event was full of love, life, food, wine and dancing... not even the bug invasion post rain could dampen the beautiful couples spirits...

My 'Mr & Mrs' canvas was also a hit - and lots of fun to make. As usual I've been too impetuous to take photos during its production ... classic Emma.

More photos to come ... this one is from Kim's Instagram - check it out!

27.2.12

Happy Week ...

Don't you just love this invitation?
Who wouldn't want to attend when it is described so whimsically as a Pleasure Ball, and a host who is a Captain!?

Speaking of events, huge week here at W&W as we do the final prepping for a big wedding this weekend. I've been working with the gorgeous couple for a year now and we are all chomping at the bit to see it brought to life - I believe with all certainty that it is going to rock - they are a very stylish pair.
I'll have some shots after the event.

In other happy wedding news, my twin sister Lucy has become engaged to the lovely Ellis.
Those of you who've read the blog for a while now will know that for the past 2 years there has been a wedding in our family, and this year will be no different.
Hurrah for you both, and fur-baby Sooty... and hurrah for me who may 'need' to go overseas for it! It's a hard life...

This week I'll be on the move lots so watch my Twitter feed for Instagram photos and wedding updates x
